Are you ready for outsourcing?

With more than 10 years on the market, CCM Electrical Engineering has collaborated with several companies and developed solutions tailored to their specific needs, whether it was an electronic device or a test system for an existing product. Based on our own experience, we compiled 3 key principles that you should keep in mind when outsourcing to other companies to make collaboration an easy success.

Know what you want

Knowing what you want is the key. You don´t necessarily need to know the whole process; that’s what we are here for. An experienced developer knows what information he needs from you to customize the process, and our director will make sure to go through the blanks with you.

However, having a clear output and goal will help us to come up with the most efficient solution. The more you specify, the closer we can get to what you have in mind. In some case, you might know too precisely what you want, which is not necessarily the best way of achieving what you need. Be open to improvement suggestions from experts. If requirements are fixed and changes are not an option, be clear about it. Worst case scenario, the solution won’t be what you need, and the project will be scrapped and started anew.

For example, if you need a PCB designed, define the inputs available and desired outputs.

Know your product

This is especially important if you need a machinery interacting with your product. Share your product specifications. Define the applied process!

If connectors should program a microchip inside, you will need an opening for connection. Size limitation will also put constraints on the electronics inside, or external cabinet enclosure. Software must account for various inputs and cases to avoid bugs and be adjusted to the electronics. Where should the desired output pins be located? And which pins can be connected to inputs? This straight-forward information will be a significant constraint for the application, yet sometimes customers are not sure what exactly their product does.

Maybe your product is still under development – let the collaborating company know in time if you make any major changes, so that they can adjust their part of the solution.

Good design

Design for user and design for manufacturing are two different things. Collaborating with another company is an excellent oppoIMG_20190905_115506-min.jpgrtunity to test the latter. Ergonomic casing is visually appealing, but it might be challenging to fasten the product for automated processes, such as testing. Hidden connectors will not disturb the eye, but the vision system might still have to precisely locate it to check their functionality. Perfectly round chip will be placed in random positions.

If we struggle to work with your product, your operators will most likely struggle too. If your product is still under development, great! Think about how the product will be used and made, what design features don’t work too well. Maybe you can easily use a poka-yoke technique and save yourself a lot of struggling in the future.

All in all, putting down requirements will speed up the collaboration process and result in a solution that precisely fits your needs, while being open to suggestions will allow you to get feedback and fill in the blanks in areas where we are the experts.

At have et klart output og et mål vil dog hjælpe os med at komme med den mest effektive løsning. Jo mere du angiver, desto tættere kommer vi på hvad du har i tankerne. I nogle tilfælde ved du måske for præcist, hvad du vil have. Men det er ikke nødvendigvis den bedste måde at opnå det, du har brug for. Vær åben for forbedringsforslag fra eksperter. Hvis kravene er faste, og ændringer ikke er en mulighed, skal du være klar over det. I værste fald er løsningen ikke det, du har brug for, og projektet skrotes og startes på ny.

Hvis du f.eks. Har brug for en PCB-designet, skal du definere de tilgængelige input og de ønskede output.

Kend dit produkt

Dette er især vigtigt, hvis du har brug for en maskine, der interagerer med dit produkt. Del dine produktspecifikationer. Definer den anvendte proces!
Hvis stik skal programmere en mikrochip inde, har du brug for en åbning for tilslutning. Størrelsesbegrænsning vil også sætte begrænsninger for elektronikken indeni eller eksternt kabinet. Software skal redegøre for forskellige indgange og sager for at undgå fejl og tilpasse elektronikken. Hvor skal de ønskede outputstifter placeres? Og hvilke stifter kan tilsluttes til indgange? Denne lige information vil være en betydelig begrænsning for applikationen, men nogle gange er kunderne ikke sikre på, hvad deres produkt præcist gør.
Måske er dit produkt stadig under udvikling - lad det samarbejdende firma vide det i tide, hvis du foretager større ændringer, så de kan justere deres del af løsningen.

Godt design

Design til bruger og design til fremstilling er to forskellige ting. At samarbejde med et andet firma er en fremragende mulighed for at teste sidstnævnte. Ergonomisk kasse er visuelt tiltalende, men det kan være udfordrende at fastgøre produktet til automatiserede processer, såsom test. Skjulte stik ser slank ud, men synssystemet bliver muligvis stadig nødt til at lokalisere det for at kontrollere deres funktionalitet. Perfekt rund chip placeres i tilfældige positioner.
Hvis vi anstrengelse for at arbejde med dit produkt, vil dine operatører sandsynligvis også anstrengelse. Hvis dit produkt stadig er under udvikling, fantastisk! Tænk over, hvordan produktet vil blive brugt og lavet, hvilke designfunktioner fungerer ikke so godt. Måske kan du bruge en nemt poka-yoke-teknik og spare dig selv en masse komplikationer i fremtiden.
